The importance of God's word

The importance of God's word

The word of God can be defined as any spoken or written message of God to mankind.

The spoken word of God are the words that God speaks to us personally or through ministers of God.

The written word of God are the words given to us in the scriptures, that is, the Bible.

In whatever form, whether the Bible or the spoken word of God, God's word is very powerful.

The Bible contains God's word, written for our benefit as believers.

The Bible is like a blueprint for us. Every thing that a believer has to know about God, about life and in fact about any issue of life, can be found in the Bible.

After you get born again, one of the things you should do is to take the Bible serious.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 NLT

I was reading in a devotional one day, how a man of God laid hands on a man and the man received his healing. There was  however, another man in the gathering that  received that exact kind of healing, just by laying hold on God's written word.

This is to say that what ever you can get with the annointing, you can as well get by God's word.

As much as we crave the audible voice of God, visions and all, it's important to know that there's a way that God speaks to us at every point in time. That's His written word,  and glory to God, we all have access to that word of God.

Why is God's word important?

1. God's word is the instrument of our spiritual growth.

If you want to grow spiritually, the Bible is your food. Remember that when a baby is born, he or she needs milk to survive. It's the same with a born again believer.  You need the word of God to grow, you need the word of God to understand the characteristics of the new life you have received.

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

I Peter 2:2 NKJV

The difference between a believer that is living the life and one that's struggling is how much they have given themselves to God's word.

God's word gives us a clear detail of the life we have received when we got born again.

Imagine if you bought an equipment you don't know how to operate and you refuse to read the manual you will never be able to operate the equipment as the manufacturer intended.

A lot of people have phones with so many capabilities but they don't know about  it, because they refused to read the manual. They only rely on their past knowledge and on hearsay.

That's the same thing if a believer refuses to read the Bible. It's not enough to depend on what others say about God. There's need to find out for oneself, from the Bible.

We talk to God when we pray. He talks back to us from the scriptures. Without the scriptures, you can not have a good relationship with God.

2. Gods word gives us a clear direction for life.

There's nothing you need directions and guidance about that's not found in the word: Academics, Money, Marriage, Sex, Friendship etc. In the word, you will find clear instructions on these matters.

God's will is clearly revealed to us within the pages of the scriptures.

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Psalms 119:105 NKJV

Did you see that?

God's word provides light to our paths.

Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of your word makes my pathway clear.

Psalms 119:105 TPT

God's word guides us in our choices and decisions. It makes our pathway clear.

3. God's word gives us peace and rest

When you know what the word of God says concerning a matter, you rest about that matter. For instance, His word says that He is our refuge and strength, a present help in time of need. At the time when you are in need, knowing this word of God, will produce rest in you.

The reason why some believers run helter skelter is because they don't know what the word of God says concerning a matter.

My encouragement for you is this:

The importance of God's word
For any issue in your life, always know what the written word of God says about it.

When you want to write an exam, look for scriptures about success in examination, write it out and begin to confess them daily.

Are you in need?

The word says, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

There is a rest and a peace that knowledge of God's word produces.

God's word is true and reliable. You need to know that.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Matthew 24:35 NKJV

What do we do with the word?

We read, study and meditate.

The importance of God's word

If the only time you get the word is when you go to church, you will not grow like you should. You will not enjoy that peace and rest that the word offers.

There's need for more girl.

Read the Bible

Have portions of the Bible where you read daily.  You can work with a Bible study plan.

Study the Bible

This helps you to go a bit deeper into the scripture. You could study by verse, topic, a character, a book, or a chapter.

Meditate

This has to do with taking a portion of the scripture, reading it, studying it and confessing it.
